Schunnemunk Mountain State Park in Orange County is going to get some extra TLC thanks to a newly formed Friends group. The volunteers have big plans for the park and region.
The non-profit Friends of Schunnemunk Mountain State Park was created to preserve and protect Schunnemunk and Woodcock Mountains and their surrounding areas. The immediate goal of the group is to help raise funds for the state park.
Established in 2003, Schunnemunk Mountain State Park consists of more than 2,700 acres of open space. In the park, there are eight marked trails that run for more than 25 miles along Orange County’s tallest mountain.
The Palisades Parks Conservancy is serving as the fiscal agent for the newly formed Friends group.
