Summer in Saratoga just got a little sweeter thanks to a series of improvements in Saratoga Spa State Park, including a new picnic shelter, comfort station complex, and bike trail. The $839,000 in enhancements were funded through Governor Cuomo’s NY Works initiative.
The new 75-person capacity Polaris picnic shelter, named after one of the park’s mineral springs, is located near the Peerless Pool. The shelter includes a comfort station, large brick fireplace and access for people with limited mobility.
The pedestrian trail along Route 9/South Broadway adds another mile of paved pedestrian trail to the park’s network, linking East-West Road to Marin Avenue, extending existing trail along Route 9 and creating a trail loop within the park.
The improvements at Saratoga Spa State Park are part of an ongoing effort to revitalize the entire state parks system. Since 2012, NY Works has supported a total of $421 million to advance 279 capital improvement projects at 109 state parks.
