And they’re off!

17th annual Cycle the Erie Canal kicks off

More than 600 riders from 36 states and as far away as Australia, ages 2 through 91, depart today from Buffalo on Parks & Trails New York’s 17th annual Cycle the Erie Canal bike tour. The 400-mile journey along the legendary Erie Canal ends in Albany on July 19. Along the way, cyclists will enjoy some of the finest scenery, most interesting history, and unparalleled cycling in the northeastern United States.

More than three-quarters of the tour is on the off-road Erie Canalway Trail. When the gaps in the trail are closed, the Erie Canalway Trail will be the longest statewide trail in the country.
